Kaleidoscope is a 12-foot tall human figure made of more than 1,400 stainless steel butterflies. The butterflies that make up the sculpture are simplified to support the strength of the structure, however, and each one is to the scale of actual monarchs. The work references the survival strategy of the monarchs: in the winter hundreds gather to share body heat and survive the cold. In a similar way, humans are all individuals, but only hope for long term survival comes from working together.
